Description
The Ficus Elastica ‘Tineke’, commonly known as the Rubber Plant, is a bold and adaptable indoor plant known for its glossy, variegated leaves. Native to Africa and also found in South America, Australia, and Asia, this plant belongs to the mulberry family (Moraceae) and has long been valued for both its beauty and air-purifying qualities. Its name comes from the fact that rubber was once made from its leaves, but today it is cherished as a decorative and low-maintenance houseplant.
This resilient plant thrives in bright, indirect light but can also tolerate partial shade. It requires minimal watering—about once or twice a week—allowing the soil to dry between waterings. During winter, water less frequently. Occasional leaf cleaning promotes healthy growth, and between March and September, the plant will benefit from regular fertilization. With proper care, the Rubber Plant can grow up to 2 meters tall in a spacious pot. Please note: the Ficus Tineke is toxic to children and pets.
