Description

The Ficus microcarpa Ginseng, originally from southern China and Malaysia, is admired for its unusual root structure and bonsai-like form. Its name “Ginseng” comes from the Chinese word for “root,” reflecting the plant’s thick, sculptural base. It takes more than 10 years for the roots to develop their unique shape, after which the small-leaved ficus is carefully grafted and pruned with great patience to achieve its characteristic look. These plants are then nurtured in the Netherlands before finding their way to homes across the world.

Belonging to the mulberry family (Moraceae), Ficus Ginseng is one of the most popular indoor bonsai-style plants, especially for beginners. It enjoys a bright spot without direct sun, and its watering needs depend on light exposure—the brighter the location, the more often it needs water. Never let the root ball dry out, and in winter, reduce watering while keeping the plant in a room with temperatures around 12–15°C. During warmer months, it can even be placed outdoors, as long as nights remain mild.

For best care, remove any yellow or damaged leaves and prune in autumn to maintain its beautiful shape. A little bonsai fertilizer will give it extra vitality. Upon delivery, the plant measures 30–40 cm in height (including the pot) and comes in a 12 cm nursery pot, ready to brighten your home with its graceful form.
